Helping the Mentally Challenged Get Jobs

Living with a mental disability is challenging in many aspects. One challenge that people with mental disabilities deal with on a regular basis is trying to become independent. Being more independent can mean holding down a job, whether it be full or part-time. Finding a job, when mentally challenged, can be very difficult. Many companies do not recognize mentally challenged people as being responsible, although many mentally challenged people do work.

When it comes to finding a job for a mentally challenged person, there are ways to go about finding a company who will take a chance on the individual. There are big companies, such as Wal-Mart, who pride themselves on hiring people with disabilities of all kinds. The Goodwill is another company to check with, along with the Salvation Army. These companies have been helping people with mental disabilities for years.

Online is also a good place to start. Looking at sites like jobbank.com and jobster.com can be very informative. Many companies that pride themselves on hiring people with a handicap or mental challenge will advertise that they do so. Talking with others about a job and spreading the word is also a great step!

Put together a resume and hand it out to local employers. People helping people is always something to take pride in, and that is how a lot of companies today want to portray themselves. All it takes is time and research to help a person with a mental disability to find work.
