Rights Of The Mentally Challenged

While persons with disabilities are challenged in many ways, it is important to remember they are people with needs, desires, and meaningful lives. Often, unfair labels are attached to mentally challenged individuals. However, there are resources available to help them lead productive and independent lives.

If you have a long-term condition that affects your ability to conduct daily activities, you have certain rights under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). This act provides disabled individuals with options that may be helpful, offering not only information about their rights, but also providing employment and other resources.

Another resource that may be helpful in fighting for the rights of the mentally challenged is an online guide entitled "Who Else Wants These 23 Little Known Disabled Secrets!"  The gentleman offering this product, Brian Therrien, is a professional mental health researcher. His information may save valuable time for mentally challenged individuals trying to secure benefits, as it can be customized to suit each person's individual situation.

Many communities offer direct aid to the mentally challenged. For instance, people with any type of disability are recognized by the city of Sumter, South Carolina. This community realizes that developmentally disabled individuals have the same need for acceptance and independence as anyone else. The resource information for this group can be found at http://www.scdsnb.com/. This organization also has connections that could prove useful in other communities.

Finally, if you suspect a friend of loved one has a problem but are unsure, here are some tips. While a medical professional is always the best avenue diagnoses, there are also many online resources out there to help.
